What translation of the Bible should I get?

When I first became a Christian many years ago, (WOW… 30 years ago!) I was very concerned about what translation of the Bible I should get. I was worried if I got the King James Bible and did not understand the language, I would misinterpret the “Word of GOD”.  I took the “Word of God” very seriously, so I went without a Bible for a little bit.

I was a new Christian and was so excited to learn more about God, and I was really excited to get a Bible!

So here I am really wanting to get a Bible, but unsure on what was the best translation for me. So I prayed and asked God “What Bible should I get Lord?”…and I prayed some more…Not too long after praying and asking God what would be the best Bible for me…I was walking down the sidewalk of an outside strip mall going somewhere I can not remember, and I passed a Christian book store. (I did not even know there was a Christian bookstore in that strip mall). As I passed the Christian bookstore, I looked in their window and they had this display of New International Bibles with an open window on the cover. I will never forget this moment! I do not know what happened, but I lit up! I was soooo drawn to this Bible display… with the Bibles with the open window on the cover! I went in, opened up one of the Bibles and started to read it. I was in total love! This!!! Was my Bible. There was no doubt in my mind, this was my Bible!!!!! I read that Bible voraciously for three years straight…every chance I got! I could not get enough!!! I LOVE the New International Bible… The NIV has been my favorite Bible for 30 years now and counting! Oh, How God answers prayers!

There was a girl in my girls church group that was reading from the Message Bible. It intrigued me since all I have ever read was the NIV. I got the Message Bible  and I am really liking it. It is a nice change from reading the NIV. I joke and say I still speak NIV, but I do love my Message Bible also.

So if you are not sure about what Bible to get, pray! God will show you the way…in the mean time check out the NIV and the Message Bible. I feel it is very important to get a Bible you understand. If you like the King James version of the Bible I recommend you get the New King James version…it is easier to understand. You need to get to know God’s word for yourself and not only through a pastor of a church or someone on TV. Let God speak to you personally. It is  important for you to have a personal relationship with God, Jesus, and the precious Holy Spirit yourself. Learn to know for yourself, what God is directing you to do.

Read your Bible and let the ancient words impart!

May God Bless you Richly!

Love in Christ,

Kim
