I really like the book of Malachi because it is showing us where we may be astray in our walk with God, in a way that is simple to understand. I especially like to read the book of Malachi in the Message Bible translation version.
By reading Malachi, I can see where I may not be putting God first in my life. I feel it is extremely important to keep God first in our life because when we seek God’s kingdom first, God says he will provide for us (Matthew 6:33). To be able to trust that God will provide for us is amazing. I like that kind of peace in my life.
In the book of Malachi, God talks about some of the ways the Jewish people were dishonoring Him. We are now God’s people too so this can apply to us also.
I suggest you read the book of Malachi in the Message translation of the Bible and see if there are any ways you may be dishonoring God. How are you measuring up? Is there anything in your life that you feel God is speaking to?
In Malachi 1… God says he loves us. The people said Really? How?… and God told them. Read Malachi to find out more.
In Malachi… God tells the Jewish people that they are not respecting God by not making worship a priority in their lives. Their worship is sloppy and the people are bored during worship time. Their sacrifices are second rate sacrifices, really not quality sacrifices at all. God wants and deserves our best.
Malachi 2… talks about priests not teaching the truth. (It is always a good idea to read the Bible in a translation you understand, so you can know the truth for yourself.) God also talks about his people whining and complaining that they are not getting what they want from God.
How many Christians have you heard complaining about God not answering their prayers the way THEY wanted? God is not some genie in the sky here to do what YOU want. God knows best. Trust God that He knows what He is doing. Thank God, God doesn’t do what we want…it may not be for our best in the end. Trust in God and he will divinely direct you in the best way!
Malachi 3… God also says we haven’t done what he is telling us to do. God tells us to come back to Him, so He can come back to us.
I love this…The people ask… how can we come back to you God? God says, be honest and stop stealing from me.
I love this part of Malachi…God says in the Message translation of the Bible, navpress, copyright 2005:
Bring your full tithe to the Temple (church) so there will be ample provisions in my Temple. (God says) Test me in this and see if I don’t open up heaven itself to you and pour out blessings beyond your wildest dreams….”You’ll be voted ‘Happiest Nation.’ You’ll experience what it is like to be a country of grace.” (WOW,God says test me in this…wow! Blessings beyond my wildest dreams! I don’t know about you, but this is major exciting! )
Malachi 3.. goes on to say, there are people who are saying it doesn’t pay to follow God. They are saying those non christian people are lucky, they break all the rules and they get ahead anyway. They push God to the limit and they get away with it. (now there are times I hear Christians talking like this).
The devout Christians got together to talk about this. God saw that the devout Christians got together to honor Him! God saw what they were doing and listened in!
There was a book that was opened in the presence of God and minutes were taken of their meeting! The names of all those who honored God were written down. God said these people were His! God said they will get special treatment. God may be taking minutes at our meetings when we get together with other believers! God knows what is going on.
I will let you finish Malachi the last book of the Old Testament.
Love in Christ,
